Why May Day?

May Day is labor day throughout the world. On that day working people
remember and honor the long and historic struggle for jobs with dignity,
and they remember in particular that on May 1st 1886 in a general strike
many workers won the eight hour day until the leaders of that movement
in Chicago - both native born and immigrant workers - were arrested and
executed.

On May Day 2009 in Kansas City we honor them and remember that
it takes all working people: immigrant and citizen, black, brown, and
white, women and men together to win respect and justice for working
people.
